Cams post on mma.tv
Was a great show with some great fights! Team Praxis represented well with Cole Miller winning by 23 second KO and Scott Harper winning with a 38 second KO. Charles got caught. It happens to everyone. He has more important things to focus on right now with his wedding coming up next weekend but I am sure he will be back to his winning ways soon enough. Stout/Luigi was definitely the fight of the night. It was a back and forth battle with most of the fight standing and Tim seeming to slow down a little toward the beginning of the last round. In the clinch Tim cought Luigi with a knee from out of nowhere that opened up a cut on Luigi's forehead that looked a lot like the Eastman/Belfort cut. I stopped the fight to let the Doc check it out and since it wasn't really bleeding that badly and there was only about 2 minutes left in the fight the Doc decided to let it continue. Luigi took it to the ground and in about the last 15 seconds of the fight Luigi landed some solid bombs from within Tim's guard that swelled Tim up pretty good. Both guy's looked like they had been in a train wreck after the fight. Was a great battle with Luigi getting the nod. Both Team Jorge Gurgel guys looked good, especially "Sprout". I was very impressed with his composure and his skill. The kid looks all of 13 years old but he fought like a veteran. Diego Saraiva pulled out an armbar to get the win over Brandon Bledsoe after a tough first 2 minutes. Brandon came out swinging and was getting the better of Diego. When the pace slowed down Diego was able to get Brandon in his guard and set up the triangle to armbar combo for the win. Jeff Bedard was dominant and explosive as usual GnPing his way to a decision over Rocky Long. Raphael Assuncao got a tapout victory via guillotine over a very game William McGlothlin. The first round was very close but Raphael was able to turn it on in the second to get the submission. Newcomer Mark Longworth gets the tapout victory in his debut gainst Cory Nestlehutt. Nestlehutt controlled the pace of the first round mounting Longworth for almost the duration. Longworth showed good defense and patience for almost the entire round finally getting a reversal and laying down some GnP on an appearingly gassed Nestlehutt. Nestlehutt tapped out to strikes at the very end of the round. Ran Weathers got right down to business in the first few seconds of his fight against Chase Knight. They threw a small exchange and then Ran pulled guard up against the fence. As soon as it hit the ground Ran spun for the armbar getting the tap. Juan Guevara showed some textbook Gracie Jiu Jitsu in his victory over Terrance Jones. Juan clinched, rode his opponent to the ground into mount where he threw a few shots forcing his opponent to roll over and then sunk the rear naked choke for the tapout. Fight looked a lot like the early days of MMA in the USA!! Joe Merritt's comeback fight was rather anti-climactic when his opponent, John Tarrh injured his shoulder during the bout and conceded the match about halfway through the first round. Merit attempted a high kick and was taken down by Tarrh where he wound up on his back with Tarrh mounted on him. Merritt kept his composure and got the reversal where he pushed Tarrh up against the fence and was starting some GnP action when Tarrh complained with his shoulder and verbally submitted. Merrit showed some well improved ground skills escaping a bad position and turning the fight around. Andy Foster defeated Wayne Music once more by patented Foster armbar at about 2 minutes into the first round. This was a rematch from their initial bout in Valdosta earlier this year where Andy won with a rear choke. That's about all I can remember... I met some really great guys tonight including Yves Edwards, Jorge Gurgel, Tim Honeycutt, and a few others and as always it was great seeing guys like Carlao, Chainsaw, and Renzo and the rest of the regular Atlanta fight crew!! Great show!! Peace- Cam

Great production as always from Brett Moses! Everything went off without a hitch and all the fighters brought everthing they had. It was a pleasure to add another event as a judge and this card had it all! KOs, subs, and some amazing battles. Forrest Griffin got in some more REF time and I think he's getting the hang of it, lol. Even if he did make me drive him home at 3am while he talked on his cell
Here's some of what I can remember.Cole Miller dropped Tim Honeycutt fast with that nice combo right in front of me. Guess Cole wanted to make a "I can do more than triangle guys" sort of statement, and he did. Other fights of note that I can remember since I was a judge and had the close up! Luigi Fioravanti vs Tim Stout was a great fight. Tim showed more heart than a lot of fighters who may have quit in the 2nd round, but Tim took everything Luigi had. I hope Tim is OK, though I did see him getting a pic with Renzo later. Rashad Khalliq vs Andrew "Sprout" Varney. These guys when back and forth exchanging kicks and punches in a stand up battle. Rashad seemed to gas later in the fight and "Sprout" seized on it. I was impressed with Sprout (great nickname) and I hope Brett has him back next time! Mark Longworth showed great composure and weathered a storm and sub attempts by Cory Nestlehutt(a monster) and got a sweep and a ref stoppage after landing some bombs. Dymond Jones looked great in what I think was his first fight. Ran Weathers also looked slick and had an awesome after fight celebration! Andy Foster looks unstoppable from his back. It looks like it's time for him to take the next step. Scott Harper's quickly earning a rep for beaing a beast and just plowing through people (although my buddy Nate DID beat him in his 1st fight! ) JK Scott, you looked great and beat a MUCH more experienced fighter in Kevin Brooks.Jeff "Little Popeye" Bedard had some trouble from Yves Edwards' fighter Rocky Long, but not nearly enough to win a round on any of the judges cards. "Some" trouble for Jeff means someone was able to actually stand up after being taken down from him! Raphael Assuncao, Diego Saraieva, and Juan Guevara are all fun to watch. They make up 3 of the best on the ground from Atlanta and it's always a pleasure to see them fight. And Joe Merritt is a legend! Brandon Bledsoe, Chainsaw Charles, and Kevin Brooks, all you guys keep your heads up. All of you have plenty of fans and you showed class, courage and sportsmanship. All the guys in Atlanta, great to see you as always It was great to meet Jorge Gurgel, Yves Edwards, and Renzo Gracie("my friend") who signed an awesome poster given to me by mi amigo, JJ from Casca-Grossa! |

Concerning the Longworth/Nestlehutt fight...
I saw what appeared to be a legitimate tapout. After the fight Nestlehutt asked me if I stopped it or if he tapped, as if he didn't remember... I asked Paul Thatcher, the photog sitting on the cage taking pics and he said he saw the tapout, also. I would not have stopped that fight in that situation as there were only about 5 seconds left in the round. I would let it go for 5 more seconds unless there is a KO. I only stepped in because I saw what I thought was a tap, and apparently I was not the only one that saw it. It appeared Cory gassed and was unable to mount a defense once on his back. I look forward to seeing Cory back and I hope he learns a lesson from that loss. He was in control the entire time but just wasn't able to pace himself. Seems he had the same problem when he fought Herring. Cory is a powerhouse and with some patience he could be a force in the HW division. That being said, I look forward to seeing Longworth back in there, too. He showed maturity and great patience for a first timer. Sprout defeated Rashad by tap from strikes while in mount. Rashad was feeling the extra weight and gassed he said. Peace- Cam |
